Roger was a pre-med student at Emory University when he decided to put his science background and learning to use a bit differently, instead deciding to study law and work with the health profession as an attorney. After graduating from Emory in 1986 with a BA in Political Science, Roger attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana in a joint degree program. He received his Juris Doctor (cum laude) from the Tulane University School of Law and a Master’s in Health Administration from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in 1990.
Beginning in 1990, Roger was a defense attorney on a general civil litigation docket before quickly specializing in the defense of medical negligence claims. Although he initially primarily defended physicians sued for malpractice, his expertise has been sought out by dental providers, hospitals and nurses, and group practices. Roger has a large administrative law practice, defending providers of all specialties before their respective state boards, mainly, though not exclusively in Texas. He also acts as advisor and counselor to a nursing home group with multiple Texas facilities and to a virtual radiology company whose physician contractors read studies around the country.
As an offshoot of his defense work, Roger has also developed an appellate practice. He has handled appeals in Courts throughout Texas and has argued before the Texas Supreme Court; he has also briefed cases pending in Federal District Courts and the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans.
Roger is a member of the Houston Bar Association, the Texas State Bar, the Bar Association of the Fifth Circuit, and the Greater Houston Society for Healthcare Risk Management. He is licensed in the Federal District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, and Northern Districts of Texas and has represented physicians in multi-district litigation matters involving Rezulin, Baycol, and HRT, which were consolidated in Federal Courts in New York, Minnesota and Arkansas respectively.
